The House of Representatives has voted to pass the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, referred to as the NDAA. The House version of this bill would authorize a whopping $733 billion dollars for defense spending, giving the U.S. the means to respond with violence to conflict around the world.

The American Friends Service Committee does not support the passage of the NDAA, because it is incompatible with our vision of a peaceful world.

SunTrust Bank has joined a growing number of large financial institutions and announced it would stop financing private prisons and immigration detention centers operators. This announcement comes from the last of the large financial organizations which have provided credit to both giant prison and detention operators, GEO Group and CoreCivic.
