Privacy Policy

The American Friends Service Committee values your support and is committed to protecting your online privacy. You can visit our web site without revealing any personal information.

Information we collect

Our web servers do automatically collect some non-identifying basic information from your visit to help measure web site activity and improve our site. This information includes standard information exposed any time you visit a web site including your IP address, browser type, computer type, the pages requested, and referring web site.

Like many other websites, the AFSC web site uses  cookies to help us distinguish repeat visitors from first-time visitors and give us helpful information about how our pages are viewed, and to aid some of our advanced tools. We do not use cookies to collect personal, identifiable information without your knowledge.

In addition, AFSC uses third party services throughout the Sites, such as Google Analytics, to place first party and/or third party cookies on devices that access the Sites.  These cookies enable AFSC to track how our sites are used, which portions of the sites are visited and which items our visitors find most interesting.  To opt out of use of our cookies for tracking, you may visit Google’s advertising policy page.

We also use certain third party service providers to place advertisements to market AFSC on sites across the web.  We place a cookie on your browser, and then a service such as Google reads these cookies and may serve an ad for AFSC on a 3rd party site.  You may opt out of this ad serving by visiting Google’s advertising policy page. If you are concerned about 3rd party cookies served by networks, you should also visit the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page

We use third parties to improve our ability to identify visitors to our website. As part of this service, we may make available identifiers to these third parties, including our visitors’ IP addresses, cookies, and hashed versions of email addresses captured from your visit. We, and third parties, use this data to obtain more information about our visitors and reach out to them through other channels, such as email and/or direct mail. You have the right to opt out of this activity. To opt out, please call, email, or mail to the addresses below on this page.

On occasion, we may conduct online surveys to learn more about our audience and their preferences. Information requested on such surveys is not personally identifying and will be used only in aggregate for research purposes (except in cases where you request follow up information or specifically consent to another use).

We want to be clear. We will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit our site unless you choose to provide such information.

Use of cookies

Cookies are small text-only files that are stored on your computer and that can be used to help identify you when you visit any of the sites.  A cookie cannot read data off of your computer hard disk, nor can it read cookie files created by other websites. We may use cookies to make visiting and using our sites easier, for instance, so that you do not have to continually re-enter information. , and so that we can tailor the sites to your expressed preferences.

Most web browsers accept cookies. However, if you wish, you can usually set your browser to refuse cookies, or to notify you when you receive a new cookie. Note that if cookies are disabled, you may not be able to enjoy all the interactive features of the sites. For more information about cookies, including instructions on how to stop cookies being installed on your browser, please see www.allaboutcookies.org.

Volunteering personal data

You may voluntarily submit your email address, mobile number or other personally identifying data to take part in an activity on the site, such as to sign up for a mailing list, text alerts or participating in advocacy. In this case, we will use your information to send you the requested mailings and text messages or as part of the advocacy work you are supporting. Donation information

If you choose to make a donation to AFSC, you will be asked to submit financial and contact information to allow us to collect the donation and provide you with a receipt. The AFSC makes every effort to insure the secure collection and transmission of sensitive visitor information using industry-accepted data collection and encryption methodologies.
