Last May, the Israeli military attacked Gaza. At least 253 Palestinians were killed, including 66 children. At the height of the attack, over 113,000 people were displaced from their homes. All of this as COVID-19 continued to spread through a population with very limited access to vaccines.

La Posada Sin Fronteras is a re-enactment of the Bible story of Mary and Joseph. While sojourners in Bethlehem, they were forced to seek shelter on the night of Jesus' birth—much like many migrants today seek shelter to protect themselves and their families. The posada is a venerated Christmas tradition across the Americas.

Hello, my name is Rubi Mendez and I am a member of the Social Justice Club at Roger C. Sullivan High School. The Social Justice Club, better known as SoJo, was founded in 2019 after the Chicago Teachers Union Strike by me and another student. We decided to create the club after we saw our classmates standing in solidarity with teachers in picket lines and protesting downtown.

Rubi Mendez is currently a student at Roger C. Sullivan High School who is looking to study sociology next year. She hopes to become more of an active community member inside and outside school. She has worked to remove cops from her school and hopes to get more involved in the fight to defund the police.
