Caren Marshall grew up in a rural Quaker community near Jericho Friends Meeting near Winchester, Indiana. The Quaker history of her parents and grandparents influenced her pursuit of A Master’s Degree in Social Work from Indiana University to pursue a career in service to others. A post graduate role included 5 years as Medical Social Consultant with the Indiana Department of Public Welfare followed by a 22-year career as the CEO of a nonprofit that combined the organizations of Goodwill Industries and Easter Seals.
A member of Purchase Monthly Meeting, New York Yearly Meeting, Fred Dettmer has served as a Trustee and Treasurer at different points. He has served as a Trustee and as Clerk of the Board of NYYM and in numerous other roles there. He was a member of the New York Metropolitan Region Executive Committee of AFSC from 2008-2012, and has taken governance responsibilities in numerous other organizations, including FCNL, the Connecticut Friends School, Friends Peace Teams, and the New York State Schools youth sports programs. I am a member at Twin Cities Friends Meeting (St. Paul) the traditional land of the Dakota. Northern Yearly Meeting, where my committee work includes racial justice committee, and finance committee. My governance work in AFSC has been board member, member of corporation and currently on Midwest Region Executive Committee. I earned a BA of fine arts from Manchester University focusing on music education in undergraduate work. I earned an MA from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Supervision of Music Education. In my professional work, I taught middle school choir.
Tonya McClary is a pastor, lawyer, advocate, organizer, and artist. Her life’s works are in the areas of transformative justice, criminal justice, healing, civil and human rights and for over two decades, Tonya has been realizing her vision. In February 2020, Tonya became the first Police Monitor and Director for the Office of Community Police Oversight for the City of Dallas. In that capacity, she has oversight of the eighth largest police department in the country and is the bridge between the Dallas Police Department and the community of Dallas.
