Caren Marshall grew up in a Quaker community near Jericho Friends Church, Winchester, Indiana where she retains her Quaker membership. The Quaker history of her parents and ancestors influenced her pursuit of a master's degree in social work from Indiana University. Her career included a medical social consultant role with the Indiana State Department of Public Welfare and a 30-year role as CEO of a combined Easter Seals and Goodwill Industries organization serving people with disabilities.
A member of Purchase Monthly Meeting, New York Yearly Meeting, Fred Dettmer has served as a Trustee and Treasurer at different points. He has served as a Trustee and as Clerk of the Board of NYYM and in numerous other roles there. He was a member of the New York Metropolitan Region Executive Committee of AFSC from 2008-2012, and has taken governance responsibilities in numerous other organizations, including FCNL, the Connecticut Friends School, Friends Peace Teams, and the New York State Schools youth sports programs. I am a member at Twin Cities Friends Meeting (St. Paul) the traditional land of the Dakota. Northern Yearly Meeting, where my committee work includes racial justice committee, and finance committee. My governance work in AFSC has been board member, member of corporation and currently on Midwest Region Executive Committee. I earned a BA of fine arts from Manchester University focusing on music education in undergraduate work. I earned an MA from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Supervision of Music Education. In my professional work, I taught middle school choir.
