Fall 2024 Garden Day schedule

ELCA Youth Gathering

Peace by Piece New Orleans is proud to announce our new garden property at 9120 Olive Street, built by volunteers from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Youth Gathering. Youth members of the ELCA from across the country gathered in New Orleans for a week of worship and service. Our volunteers broke ground on the new garden and built and painted garden beds. Big thanks to the ELCA Youth Gathering for choosing to work with us!

Service Day Schedule

Above is the schedule for the Fall 2024 Garden Days. On Garden Days, volunteers complete tasks around our 3 garden properties, like building garden beds, cultivating soil, planting, and weeding. Our next Garden day will be on October 26 at our Garden on 9000 Oleander Street. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the registration form.

National Urban Agriculture Conference

In August, Peace by Piece Program Director, Dee Dee Green, participated in the 2024 National Urban Agriculture (NuAg) Conference in Detroit, MI. This event was made possible by the USDA Farm Service Agency. Hollygrove Community Garden was highlighted during the break out session, Community Engaged Urban Agriculture: Growing Together for a Sustainable Future. Dee Dee and co-panelists from farming programs in Richmond, VA and Philadelphia, PA shared their insights on sustainable agriculture and self-determination. “It was so exciting to hear that all of the panelists are in communities working to become self-determined and in control of the production and distribution of their resources,” explains Dee Dee.

This inaugural gathering of USDA representatives, urban ag producers and stakeholders provided farm tours in Detroit, panel discussions from practitioners across the country and updates on the current farm bill (extended until the end of September 2024) and what the future holds for the next farm bill.
