The Pentagon has failed its annual audit for the 7th time in a row. In fact, it cannot account for half of its inventory, and yet the U.S. government – both Democrats and Republicans – continue to give it blank checks.
There is incredible waste, fraud, and abuse in the Pentagon budget. For example, a single pin for the Stinger Missile costs less than $.05 to manufacture, but was purchased by the Pentagon for $71 apiece. And the Pentagon paid $80 for a pipe that costs less than $1.50 to produce. There is no accountability for this fraud and waste.
In 2022, the top 6 military contractors – Lockheed Martin, RTX, Northup Grumman, Boeing, General Dynamics, and L3Harris – received over 210.5 billion dollars in contracts from the U.S. government. That is more than 4 times as much as the U.S. spends on foreign affairs and diplomacy, and more than 5 times as much we spent on USAID last year.
We must call on Congress to stop giving blank checks to the Pentagon and invest in things that benefit us and the world – services like education, health care, and green technology.
Call on your elected leaders to support legislation like the People over the Pentagon Act, and make sure you’re not invested in weapons manufacturers and war profiteers by visiting Investigate.
Together, we can make a change.
