In October, AFSC launched an emergency response to help families displaced by Israel’s bombing and ground invasion of Lebanon. Thanks to supporters like you, we have provided much-needed relief to over 4,500 people, many of whom are Palestinian and Syrian refugees.
Working with local partners, we have delivered:
- hot meals and food parcels.
- medicine.
- hygiene kits.
- pillows, blankets, and mattresses.
We have also provided medical care, psychosocial support, and activities for children and youth.
Recently, I traveled to Baddawi refugee camp in Lebanon. There, AFSC and our partner Association Najdeh were delivering food parcels to Palestinian refugee families. Our efforts focused on the most vulnerable: the elderly, people with disabilities, female-run households, and people living on less than $3 a day. In total, we were able to help 709 individuals at this location.
Israel’s assault has impacted many Palestinian refugees, who do not have the same access to government services as their Lebanese neighbors. As a result, they must rely on aid from international organizations with limited resources and reach.
AFSC is committed to helping address the shortage of resources facing refugees in Lebanon. Moving forward, we will focus on community organizing and advocacy for economic reform and more stable financial policies. We will continue to collaborate with civil society organizations, activists, and academics in Lebanon. Together, we hope to bring more attention and support for refugees in Lebanon. These efforts can help strengthen entire communities by ensuring everyone has the resources they need to thrive.
Thank you for helping to make this vital work possible. While there is still work to do, your support has allowed us to alleviate hunger and help families heal from trauma and rebuild their lives.
