Immigrant Rights | Immigration Policy | Detention and Deportation

Gabriela Flora is Program Director in AFSC’s Denver Immigrant Rights Program. During her sixteen years working for immigrant justice at AFSC, she has engaged in public education, media work, community organizing, policy education and impact and alliance building with immigrant rights, community, labor and faith groups.

Her work focuses on ending unjust enforcement of immigration policies. This includes accompanying families fighting their deportation cases, co-facilitating Denver Not1More, and documenting abuses of ICE/police collaboration. Gabriela serves on the UNITE Colorado steering committee, and was involved in helping overturn Colorado’s “Show Me Your Papers” law. Currently, AFSC is working through this committee to pass a bill diminishing the connection between local law enforcement and ICE.

Prior to joining AFSC, Gabriela worked to promote fair trade policies throughout the Americas as a program associate at the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy in Minneapolis, MN.  Gabriela has conducted research on globalization and migration in the United States, Ecuador, Brazil and the Philippines. Born in Colombia, she has also lived in Nicaragua and Bolivia, and obtained her master’s degree in environmental anthropology from the University of Georgia.

Gabriela is regularly interviewed on Univision and Telemundo. She has also appeared on NBC9, the Denver Post, and Fox News.
