Ana B. Veliz Plasencia is the Seeds of Resistance Coordinator for AFSC Florida. Ana graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in Political Science before earning a Master of Arts in International Migration and Refugees from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. Her academic and professional work has focused on migration governance, forced displacement, humanitarian policy, and refugee protection.
Prior to graduate school, Ana worked as a paralegal with Catholic Charities Atlanta's Legal Orientation Program, where she supported detained immigrants through legal orientations, country conditions research, and asylum case preparation. She later served as a Peace Corps Youth Development Volunteer in Morocco and as an executive board member of the Peace Corps' Gender and Development Committee, leading community-based initiatives focused on youth leadership, gender equity, psychosocial well-being, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. Most recently, Ana supported research and policy analysis at the International Organization for Migration and Refugees International, examining migration trends, protection risks, and humanitarian crises across multiple regions.
Through her research, advocacy, and public service, she remains committed to advancing rights-based migration policies and strengthening protections for displaced populations. Outside of work, Ana enjoys writing, reading, spending time outdoors, swimming, exploring museums, and spending time with family and friends.
