Nuclear weapons do not make us safer. They threaten every community, every ecosystem, and every future generation. Yet the U.S. continues to invest billions in these weapons of mass destruction—ignoring both the moral and strategic imperative to disarm.

Earlier this year, Rep. Jim McGovern introduced H. Res. 317, a resolution calling for renewed U.S. leadership on nuclear arms control and a pathway toward a world free of nuclear weapons. In the Senate, Sen. Ed Markey introduced the companion resolution, S. Res. 323, reinforcing this urgent call across both chambers of Congress.

In recent weeks, the U.S. has moved aircraft carriers, weapons systems, and fighter jets into the Middle East. These shifts in military equipment and forces come as the U.S. again threatens to attack Iran. 

Any U.S. attack on Iran would be an act of war. It risks escalating into a sustained conflict that could kill thousands and destabilize the Middle East.
