Lori Fernald Khamala is the director of the North Carolina Immigrant Rights Program for the American Friends Service Committee and also serves as the coordinator of AFSC’s Sanctuary Everywhere initiative. One aspect of this initiative is our Sanctuary Spaces project, in which AFSC highlights non-traditional examples of sanctuary spaces that are created by and for targeted communities.
Sophia Perlmutter: What work do you do for social change?
Last week, I joined other immigrant, progressive, faith and civil rights leaders on Capitol Hill to bring the voices of tens of thousands of AFSC supporters and others who signed petitions calling on Congress to reject money for Trump’s wall and deadly immigration force. We stood united in our message to re-open the government without funding the wall.
On behalf of Americans Friends Service Committee worldwide, we send our heartfelt condolences to the families that lost their loved ones and all those that were affected in the recent senseless attacks at DusitD4 Hotel on 14 Riverside Drive in Nairobi. Our prayers are with you as you go through these difficult times. We pray for full recovery.
