St. Louis Newsletter January 2021

Happy New Year Family,

Welcome to another year of resistance.

A wise oak tree stated that 2021 seems like simply an extension of 2020. This is sound for better or worse. In 2020, we saw April turn into carelessness in the face of a pandemic, February lead to the Senate's acquital of the emperor with no clothes, and the loss of icons such as freedom fighter / Congressman John Lewis. However, we also saw the selection of the U.S.'s first female (& black/south asian) Vice President in Kamala, Missouri elect its first black female to Congress in Cori, and the Lakers win the Championship following the tragedy in Kobe Bryant.

Keeping the tradition, this year of 2021 has held no punches. Less than one month in, we've endured the January 6th Capitol Seige, ongoing unemployment and joblessness rates tied to the pandemic, and the decision of St. Louis City School Board members to close 7 schools. At the same time, we've seen members of Congress fight for accountability in the wake of an attempted coup incited by an exiting leader, the inauguration of US President Joseph Robinette Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and communities continue to resist and heal.

As 2021 places us back in the ring, let's continue to give it the blues.

In solidarity,
Jonathan Pulphus
