WASHINGTON, DC (December 9, 2025) From December 10th – International Human Rights Day – through December 18th – International Migrants Day – protests, vigils, and events will take place across the U.S. in support of immigrant communities. In the face of the Trump Administration’s sweeping and brutal detention and deportation campaign, these actions will demand human rights for all people, including immigrants and people facing oppression throughout the world. People who migrate to the U.S. should be welcomed and their basic human and civil rights should be respected. Everyone should have a clear path to citizenship.
The Stronger with Immigrants Week of Action is organized by a coalition of leading immigrant rights groups, including the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Detention Watch Network, National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and the Immigrant Justice Network. Events are being held across the country, including Colorado, Louisiana, California, Florida, New Jersey, West Virginia, and along the U.S.-Mexico border. More information and event details can be found at https://afsc.org/action-week
“We have organized this week of action because all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect,” said Amy Gottlieb, U.S. Migration Director for AFSC. “We need immigration policies that are welcoming, and that give people an opportunity to adjust their status. We call for an end to, rather than an expansion of, immigration detention and deportation. Border walls and cages do not deter migration, they only harm our families and communities. With our actions we resist this cruelty because we know our communities are stronger with immigrants.”
Throughout the week, events will highlight the rights of people to move and live with dignity and justice. Demands include protecting programs that support immigrants, dismantling the detention and deportation apparatus, supporting opportunities for people to migrate safely, and establishing pathways to citizenship for all.
Organizers highlight the importance of human rights for all people, and call for solidarity to end the genocide against Palestinians, Sudanese, and all others who are facing violence through expanded militarism, authoritarianism, and the consequences of colonialism.
“Immigrant lives are valuable, and our communities will always stand up for safety, dignity, and respect,” said Nanci Palacios, Organizing and Membership Director at Detention Watch Network. “Detention is a deadly system; people face isolation, uncertainty, and inhumane conditions with little to no access to the care they need. As Trump pushes a mass detention and deportation agenda, we’re making it clear that we won’t allow our neighbors, loved ones, and community members to be targeted and dehumanized. This week of action is our collective refusal, we choose people over prisons every single time.”
