March 2022 events and staff updates

By Jennifer Bing and Jehad Abusalim

We are thrilled to announce that Shireen Akram-Boshar is joining our work this year as the AFSC Stephen Cary Fellow!

Shireen brings multiple talents to our work, including experience designing webinars, trainings, and toolkits, offering translation services as a case manager and for academic work, and organizing with students and communities for Palestine solidarity and movement building.

She recently received her Masters in Labour, Social Movements and Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, UK. She was awarded distinction on her Master’s dissertation on Palestine’s First Intifada. Shireen is also a published author, contributing a chapter on the U.S.-Israel relationship in the 2020 Haymarket Press book, Palestine: A Socialist Introduction.

Shireen will be working with us as we roll out our new Gaza Unlocked website this spring and prepare for the launch of our Gaza anthology, Light in Gaza: Writings Born of Fire that will be published by Haymarket Books this fall!

In other staffing news, we are thrilled that Jehad Abusalim has been selected as a non-resident fellow at the Foundation for Middle East Peace. He will continue to work with AFSC as the Education and Policy Coordinator, bringing his analysis and networking skills to audiences in Washington, DC while providing critical leadership in our Palestine Activism Program.

Join us this Sunday in Oak Park!

Boycott Pillsbury:
March events planned

The global movement for justice in Palestine is marking the 2022 Israeli Apartheid Week at the end of March and the beginning of April. Several U.S. activist groups are planning local actions as part of the call on General Mills to move its Pillsbury factory out of Israel's illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.
