Leandro was born in Guatemala and immigrated to the U.S. be with his family in Homestead. His journey to the U.S. was very challenging and long.
Leandro currently works with his mother in a plant nursey. He is also a high school student in South Dade. In his free time, he is out with his family enjoying time together. He advocates for youth to be released from detention centers because it is a very personal issue to him. He hopes to complete his education here in Homestead.

“This painting to me represents me currently taking online classes during the pandemic. It shows how little interaction I have with both teachers and students during the school year. Since attending high school is new to me and I was hoping to have a different experience while in school.”
