Harnessing solar power for small organic farmers!

With support from the W.K.Kellogg Foundation, AFSC partnered with two farming organizations in the South Valley of Albuquerque to support green energy.

For years AFSC has built dozens of passive solar coldframes to extend the growing season for farmers. In 2019 we partnered with the worker-owned Positive Solar Energy to put solar panels on a commercial kitchen created by the nonprofit La Plazita Institute. The kitchen is important for keeping fresh produce from the farm safe by cooling it after harvest. We also partnered with Moktezuma Gardens to support AFSC farmer graduate Fidel Gonzalez in creating a mobile solar unit which can be used to power his cold storage unit and farmers' market stands.
