Free Them All Caravan OR & WA to Tacoma Immigration Detention For Mother’s Day Vigil

Portland, OR (May 8, 2023)- Dozens of people will drive forming a caravan from different cities in Oregon to Tacoma WA on May 13 to join the call to end all detentions during the Mother’s Day weekend. There will be a vigil led by Adelante Mujeres, American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Immigrant Mutual Aid Coalition (IMAC), The Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMIRJ), La Resistencia, Latinos Unidos Siempre (LUS), Linn Benton Rapid Response Team, PCC DREAMers Resource Center, and the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC). The groups and their supporters  will gather as part of a Day of Action to demand that the Biden Administration and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas: 

  • Shut down migrant detention centers and stop detention expansion. 
  • Stop all deportations and deportation flights taking off from King County Airport in Seattle, and southern border Title 8 expulsions. 
  • Cut the budgets of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection. 
  • Reinvest the money in building safe and healthy communities. 

    This action in Tacoma, WA is part of a series of Mother’s Day protests and events taking place across the country to demand that people be released from prisons, jails, immigration and juvenile detention centers, and digital surveillance. The events will highlight the strength and resilience of mothers and caregivers forced to parent their children across walls–mothers in immigration detention who are separated from their children, mothers whose loved ones are in jail, and the incredible labor of all the mothers and caregivers who are leaders in the struggle for a more just world. 

    Groups will share about the need for investments in their communities instead of policing, borders, and cages. The event will be live streamed via the leading organizations’ social media platforms.  

    What:  Day of action on Mother’s Day weekend to demand the closing of the Tacoma Northwest Detention Center and stop deportations 

    Who: A coalition of immigrant justice advocates organized as Free Them All from Oregon and Washington State.

    Immigrant Mutual Aid Coalition (IMAC) provides mutual aid for immigrant families, strives to reduce health disparities and equity gaps in our communities, and supports migrant justice in OR.

    Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMIRJ) accompanies and equips communities and people of faith to advance immigrant justice through direct accompaniment of immigrants facing detention and deportation, policy advocacy at local, state and national levels, and collective action. 

    La Resistencia is a grassroots organization led by undocumented immigrants and people of color working to end the detention of immigrants and stop deportations, and shut down the NWDC in Tacoma. 

    Latinos Unidos Siempre (LUS) empower youth through leadership development and grassroots organizing, while fighting against institutional oppression. 

    Linn Benton Rapid Response Team is a group of grassroots led community leaders responding to issues supporting the Linn Benton county.

    PCC DREAMers Resource Center provides Academic Support Services, Paths to Careers Orientation, Immigration Support Services through Clear Clinic and Paths to Scholarships. 

    Portland Immigrants Rights Coalition (PIRC): Founded in 2006, Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition is a coalition of immigrant, refugee rights, and social justice organizations united to bring an end to detention and deportation of immigrant families. PIRC’s core areas of work include advocacy on immigration policy, managing the hotline, rapid response, deportation defense and community education on issues of immigration justice.

    Caravana de Oregón y Washington al Centro de Detención de Tacoma  Para Vigilia del Día de las Madres 

    Portland, OR (8 de mayo del 2023) - Decenas de personas manejarán para formar una caravana desde varias ciudades de Oregón a Tacoma WA el 13 de mayo para unirse al llamado de detener todas las detenciones de inmigrantes durante el fin de semana del día de las madres. Habrá una vigilia liderada por Adelante Mujeres, American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Immigrant Mutual Aid Coalition (IMAC), The Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMIRJ), La Resistencia, Latinos Unidos Siempre (LUS), Linn Benton Equipo de Respuesta Rápida, PCC DREAMers Resource Center, and the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC). Los grupos se reunirán como parte de un Día de Acción para exigir que la Administración Biden y el Secretario del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional Mayorkas:
