“My name is Jeanette Vizguerra, and today, December 17, 2025, marks nine months that I have been detained at the GEO detention center. On March 17th, I was arrested outside my workplace because months earlier, during the Trump administration, I had been speaking out against everything that was happening with the raids, trying to protect my community, educating my community on what to do in case of arrest, and how to prepare before being detained.
My legal team has done incredible work; they have submitted all the arguments, backed by evidence, showing that the government is violating my First and Second Amendment rights and that my detention has gone on for too long. My daughter Luna has gone to serve in the armed forces; she joined the Air Force last month after considering whether to do so for over a year. Her service also qualifies me for deferred action. And now today also marks the first ruling in months on my case. This news that I’ve been granted a bond hearing on December 19, 2025 is welcome news! And it gives me hope that I’ll soon be released.
Meanwhile I have continued my work inside here, trying to help people as much as I can from here. But now it’s clearer than ever that no amount of help is enough. The detention center is full. There are 1500 people in detention with me, just like in the past. Just like when I was detained in 2009 and in 2013, and now again - the conditions haven't changed, they’ve only worsened.
I not only have accepted the challenge of continuing to fight against the conditions inside this detention center for everyone, I must also keep fighting to obtain my freedom. Here, at the nine-month mark, I am not the only person impacted; my family, my grandchildren, and my community are still waiting for me.
Yes, the time is now, the time is now to not give up, to keep fighting. For 16 years, I’ve been fighting my own case, regardless of which administration is in power, administrations and laws that harm my immigrant community and carry out such extreme attacks, separating families. Leaving children scarred for life. I have fought against the immigration system regardless of the administration, because the laws are unjust and cruel.
Now, under the 45th administration, they want to come after me, and Trump is succeeding, along with the Department of Homeland Security, they are trying to silence me by any means. They want to stop me from continuing my activism, from continuing to protect my community.
That's why I'm calling on my entire community not to give up. To help me get out. And return home to my family, to my children, to my community. To keep fighting for our rights and home.
There's this fear, this panic of reprisals from this specific government. We have seen the leaders of the pro-Palestinian movement. We have seen other activists from California who fight to defend the rights of farmworkers who have also been detained, and other figures who have already spoken out in these cases.
Many have been detained after me and have been ordered released by the district courts. I feel like the government has been stealing time from my life, because I should be with my family at this time and I am relieved the court has ordered an immediate bond hearing for me.
We are seeing how this administration is practically destroying the country with its rhetoric. The Trump administration seeks to wield absolute power at all levels, pressuring Congress to do everything his way. So, I believe we are losing our democracy, we are truly losing it, and if we, the people, don't rise up to defend this democracy, of which the people should be proud, we will lose it.
What I see is that this stage of the immigrant rights movement is completely different than in the past. The immigrant community is fully supported, the American community has demonstrated they want to help and support us. There are more groups that fight for immigrants, even as the government is looking for ways to attack them. The government is trying to fabricate charges of conspiracy and obstruction against us – for speaking the truth.
I need to return home, not only for my family and my grandchildren, but also for my community, which needs me. They need a strong, solid leader to guide them, to direct them, to show them how we must continue this fight. I said it in the past, and I say it now: they will not silence me. No matter where I am, I will continue to defend my values and my community.
I look forward to the bond hearing this Friday and even more so to embracing my family and community and finally joining you in protest outside these walls!”

Mi nombre es Jeanette Vizguerra y llevo el día de hoy 17 de diciembre 9 meses detenida en el centro de detención de GEO. El 17 de marzo fui detenida fuera de mi trabajo porque meses atrás durante la administración de Trump estuve denunciando todo lo que estaba pasando con los operativos, tratando de proteger a mi comunidad,
educando a mi comunidad, lo que tenía en caso de ser detenido cómo prepararse antes de ser detenido.
Y ahora son 9 meses, largos 9 meses que sigo aquí. Mi equipo legal ha realizado un trabajo increíble; han presentado todos los argumentos, respaldados por pruebas, que demuestran que el gobierno está violando mis derechos de la Primera y Segunda Enmienda y que mi detención se ha prolongado demasiado. Mi hija Luna se ha alistado en las fuerzas armadas; se unió a la Fuerza Aérea el mes pasado después de considerarlo durante más de un año. Su servicio también me da derecho a la acción diferida. Sí, el momento es ahora, es el momento de no rendirse, de seguir luchando. A lo largo de 16 años, peleando mi propio caso sin importar qué administración esté en el poder, contra administraciones y leyes que perjudican a mi comunidad inmigrante y que perpetran ataques tan extremos, separando familias y dejando a los niños marcados de por vida. Por eso invito a toda mi comunidad a no rendirse. A que me ayudan a salir. Y regresar a casa con mi familia, con mis hijos.
Hay como ese miedo, ese pánico de las represalias de este gobierno en específico que Trump ataca a las cortes inferiores o a las cortes de distrito cuando dan un veredicto a favor de algún inmigrante por ser tan visible. Hemos visto a los líderes del movimiento propalestina.
Hemos visto otros activistas de California que luchan para defender los derechos de los trabajadores del campo que han sido también detenidos y otras figuras que se han pronunciado en esos casos ya.
Muchas personas han sido detenidas después que yo y los tribunales de distrito han ordenado su liberación. Siento que el gobierno me ha robado tiempo de mi vida, porque debería estar con mi familia en este momento, y me alivia que el tribunal haya ordenado una audiencia inmediata para fijar mi fianza.
Lo que veo es que esta etapa del movimiento por los derechos de los inmigrantes es completamente diferente a las anteriores. La comunidad inmigrante cuenta con un apoyo total, y la comunidad estadounidense ha demostrado su deseo de ayudarnos y apoyarnos. Hay más grupos que luchan por los inmigrantes, incluso mientras el gobierno busca maneras de atacarlos. El gobierno está intentando fabricar cargos de conspiración y obstrucción en nuestra contra, simplemente por decir la verdad. Y atacarlos, incluso a la comunidad americana que nos está queriendo ayudar y apoyar,

Necesito regresar a casa, no solo por mi familia y mis nietos, sino también por mi comunidad, que me necesita. Necesitan un líder fuerte y firme que los guíe, los dirija y les muestre cómo debemos continuar esta lucha. Lo dije en el pasado y lo repito ahora: no me silenciarán. Esté donde esté, seguiré defendiendo mis valores y a mi comunidad.
Espero con ansias la audiencia de fianza de este viernes y, aún más, poder abrazar a mi familia y a mi comunidad y, finalmente, unirme a ustedes en la protesta fuera de estos muros.
