Artwork#5 “Flower Withered”
by Hav Panhnut
This artwork is inspired by real challenges faced by women, especially ethnic minority girls who are often denied access to education due to family circumstances and societal pressures. The fox is painted in shades of red and yellow with striking red eyes. It symbolizes predatory men driven by unchecked desire, a dangerous threat to women and girls.
The cage and threads that bind the girl’s hands represent the restrictions placed on her. These are the barriers—both physical and emotional—that prevent her from stepping into the world. They reflect her family’s limited understanding and fears about raising a daughter, leading to decisions like forbidding her from pursuing higher education or forcing her into early marriage.
The wilted Sopron flower garland she wears represents her life—dry, tightly bound, and lacking the freedom to flourish.
