In April 2026, AFSC published a report on California law enforcement agencies compliance with basic requirements of the 2021 state law AB 481 on military equipment used by police and sheriffs.
AFSC shared the report with California Attorney General Rob Bonta, together with a legal memo co-produced with ACLU Northern California on AB 481's requirements, along with a story map, "Counting Every Rifle," on the failure of dozens of California sheriffs to report on thousands of the assault rifles that they own and use.
