Working toward decolonization in Guatemala

In Chimaltenango, Guatemala, participants from local organizations came together last year for the workshop "Dialogue of knowledge toward decolonization." Hosted by AFSC and the Mennonite Central Committee, the workshop helped participants reflect on their shared experiences of colonialism, and how these harmful practices could be deconstructed.

The gathering promoted dialogue between participating organizations, fostering connection as participants discussed struggles they were witnessing in their communities – such as contemporary forms of racism and discrimination. Participants also collaborated on how these issues could be addressed. It was a space in which others’ perspectives could be visualized without external imposition.

In this video, participants and staff members share their thoughts on the experience – and  what new knowledge can be built from collective, collaborative spaces like this one.
