AFSC Myanmar
Five months after an earthquake devastated Myanmar, communities are still rebuilding. With support from caring people like you, AFSC and partners have assisted hundreds of people around the country.
This support has been especially meaningful as our team and partners have faced additional challenges over the past several months. Heavy rainfall has caused water levels to rise. This has delayed repairs in some villages. Widespread conflict in the country also means that the potential for security concerns is ever present.
Despite these challenges, we have been able to provide immediate relief to families and help them rebuild.
In Mandalay, we reached 5,000 households with food and essential supplies. Our support extended not only to families in Aung Myat Thar San and Pathein Gyi Townships but also to places of religious such as, monasteries, mosques, Hindu temples, and churches, where women and children seek safety.
Each package carried more than just food; it carried dignity and comfort. Families received rice, oil, salt, clean water, and dried food to ease their hunger. Women were supported with sanitary products and hygiene kits, while tarpaulins, solar lights, blankets, clothes, mosquito nets, and maps helped them rebuild a sense of security in uncertain times.
In Southern Shan State, we are helping families make their homes safe again. In Inlay Lake, 170 households, nearly 1,200 people, received food, solar lights, bamboo, and aluminum sheets to rebuild their houses. With the support of local machinery companies, we also secured equipment to carry out essential structural repairs, giving families not just shelter, but hope for a stronger, safer home.
In Sagaing, one of the hardest-hit regions, we supported 350 households, nearly 800 people with food, shelter materials, and gas stoves. Beyond meeting urgent needs, we also provided psychosocial support, helping residents cope with trauma, manage their emotions, and take steps toward healing and recovery.
Thank you for standing with earthquake survivors in Myanmar during this crisis. We are grateful for your partnership during one of the most difficult times in our country’s history.
