A message to the Trump administration—we are stronger with immigrants

On the one-year anniversary of Trump’s inauguration, AFSC delivered a petition with more than 13,000 signatures to demand an end to detention and deportation.

On Jan. 20, AFSC was joined by Quakers and partners to deliver a clear message to the Trump administration: We stand with immigrants. Together, we delivered a 14-foot long petition bearing over 13,000 signatures to the steps of Department Homeland Security in Washington, D.C.

The petition to Secretary Kristi Noem demanded an end to detention and deportation—and for policies that treat all people with dignity and respect, no matter where they were born. Watch a video of the petition delivery here.

Our delivery took place on the one-year anniversary of President Trump’s second term in office. In the past year, we have witnessed how ICE and Border Patrol have detained and deported hundreds of thousands of people. We’ve seen families and communities torn apart—creating a culture of fear.

Yet the administration’s cruelty has also been met with the transformative power of love. People across the country have organized to protect one another—and stand up for the rights and dignity of all people.

Thank you to everyone who signed our petition! We look forward to working alongside you toward the vision of a welcoming, just, and dignified world we all deserve.
