Waponahki

The Waponahki Program nurtures the reemergence of Skicinuwatuwewakon, our language, that embodies healing, culture, and economies of wellness. We target the colonialism of linguicide, generational trauma, and genocide.

The Waponahki Program facilitates the emersion of Skicinuwatuwewakon through language, culture and ceremony.

This work is done through the building of Maqahahtine, a space and a commitment to support people from our communities who commit to learning, living, and advancing Skicinuwatuwewakon. Maqahahtine is a collaborative space for growth, knowledge sharing, and collective action.

Practicing Waponahki systems of decision-making and diplomacy develops community leaders who are accustomed to working from a decolonized and indigenized perspective. These leaders then bring their skills to Waponahki communities and rebuild Indigenous knowledge systems.

Our work offers an opportunity for others to examine their relationship with persistent systems of colonization.

Collectively, humanity suffers from expanding autocratic forms of governance. The teachings and learnings from the Waponahki Program ripple out, building local systems of decision making that are based in principles of wellness.
