In Myanmar, AFSC works to create peaceful alternatives to the current conflicts. We strengthen civil society groups. We also support emerging young leaders in promoting sustainable peace.
AFSC has worked with groups in Myanmar since 2008. In 2021, the military took over in a coup. Since then, the country has faced significant challenges. These include widespread conflict and displacement, as well as economic disruptions.
AFSC has a long history of supporting the people of Myanmar in improving their lives. Our past work promoted understanding and tolerance amongst ethnic and religious groups. We also facilitated responsible business investment.
Today, we support local peace initiatives. We offer mentorship and training to marginalized groups. We offer psychosocial support and trauma healing. These efforts are helping to build trust within and between communities. They also enhance resilience amidst ongoing conflict and disasters. Most importantly, they foster peaceful approaches to conflict.
