AnnaRose Craig (they/them/elle/ella) is the new Potts Intern at AFSC Colorado! They are a student at the University of Colorado Denver and will be graduating this year with a bachelor’s degree in international studies, a minor in Spanish, and a certificate in Middle East Politics. AnnaRose attended a public dual-language school where they learned to speak, read, and write in Spanish. More significantly, they learned on a personal level about the challenges that migrants and their families face. Bearing witness to the experiences of their friends and peers, AnnaRose was activated into organizing for justice at a young age.
AnnaRose has been involved in political organizing since age 14, and throughout their life they have organized for migrant rights, ecological justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and more recently, for justice and peace in Palestine.
Aside from organizing, AnnaRose served as a long-term volunteer at The Gathering Place, a shelter for unhoused women and trans folks in Denver. At TGP, they served many people including migrants and those recently released from prison. AnnaRose has also been involved in mutual aid to support the recent waves of migrants arriving in Denver, which ultimately led them to want to learn and do more for migrant justice.
In their commitment to justice, AnnaRose understands the importance of taking an intersectional approach, taking accountability for harm, and listening to and prioritizing those who are most impacted. They believe that community organizing and solidarity across justice movements will be the most effective way to achieve collective liberation and peace for all oppressed peoples, and they are honored to be a part of this organization!
¡AnnaRose Craig (elle/ella) es la nueva pasante Potts en AFSC Colorado! Es estudiante de la Universidad de Colorado Denver y se graduará este año con una licenciatura en estudios internacionales, una especialización en español y un certificado en política de Oriente Medio. AnnaRose estudio en una escuela pública bilingüe donde aprendió a hablar, leer y escribir en español. Y lo que es más importante, aprendió a nivel personal los retos a los que se enfrentan los inmigrantes y sus familias. Siendo testigo de las experiencias de sus amigos y compañeros, AnnaRose se activó en la organización por la justicia a una edad temprana.
AnnaRose ha participado en la organización política desde catorce años, y a lo largo de su vida se ha organizado por los derechos de los migrantes, la justicia ecológica, los derechos LGBTQ+ y, más recientemente, por la justicia y la paz en Palestina.
Además de organizadora, AnnaRose trabajó como voluntaria durante mucho tiempo en The Gathering Place, un refugio para mujeres y personas trans sin hogar de Denver. En TGP atendían a muchas personas, entre ellas inmigrantes y personas que acababan de salir de la cárcel. AnnaRose también ha participado en la ayuda mutua para apoyar a las recientes oleadas de migrantes que llegan a Denver, lo que finalmente lo llevó a querer aprender y hacer más por la justicia de los migrantes.
En su compromiso con la justicia, AnnaRose entiende la importancia de adoptar un enfoque interseccional, asumir la responsabilidad por los daños y escuchar y dar prioridad a los más afectados. Cree que la organización comunitaria y la solidaridad entre los movimientos por la justicia serán la forma más eficaz de lograr la liberación colectiva y la paz para todos los pueblos oprimidos, ¡y se siente honrada de formar parte de esta organización!
