The Horn of Africa faces significant challenges in achieving peace and stability, which are expected to worsen over the next five to ten years. Achieving change will require sustained efforts in conflict management, post-conflict reconstruction, better governance, sociopolitical cultural transformation, and institutional capacity building. Evidence-based advocacy is needed to influence policy, and legal issues related to inclusivity, governance, climate and environmental justice, and transitional justice and healing.
The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) Africa Region and Brot für die Welt (BfdW) Horn of Africa Regional Office collaborated to develop the Horn of Africa Advocacy Strategy for Peace and Stability (ASPS) (2023-2033) to contribute to sustainable peace and stability in the region. Vulnerable groups, such as local elders, traditional governance, women, and youth, face exclusion and marginalization, which has adversely affected peace and stability. AFSC and BfdW are committed to supporting initiatives to build societies that divest from harmful violence systems and invest in alternatives.
