Reframing Conversation Around the Syrian Crisis in Europe

Thursday December 12, 2024 10:30AM -13:00PM CET

European Parliament, Brussels

The American Friends Service Committee, a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and the Hon. Marco Tarquinio, S&D Shadow Rapporteur on Syria, in partnership with Quäker-Hilfe Stiftung, are honored to invite you to join us at a convening to be held at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, on December 12th. This convening will focus on reviving the critical conversation surrounding the Syrian crisis and its ongoing impacts on Europe.

Despite the prolonged nature of the Syrian conflict, often referred to as the "forgotten war," attention and global resources have shifted toward more recent crises, such as the war in Ukraine. However, the Syrian war and its devastating effects—particularly the resulting refugee crisis—still demand immediate attention. We cannot overlook the millions of Syrians whose lives remain in peril. European nations continue to play a pivotal role in absorbing refugees, and it is imperative that their integration and support be conducted in a dignified and humane manner.

This convening aims to create a platform to gather key actors and stakeholders involved in addressing the Syrian crisis in Europe and offer an opportunity to reflect on the intersection of global developments, such as the wars in Ukraine and Lebanon, and their impact on Syria. Additionally, it seeks to address the challenges faced by Syrian refugees in Europe, particularly those related to inequality and integration, while advocating for sustained support toward a political resolution for the Syrian crisis. Finally, the gathering hopes to encourage positive behavioral change and stronger support for refugee communities within the European Union.

Your participation and insight would be invaluable to this important discussion. We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us.

For security reasons the European Parliament requires all visitors' data two weeks prior to the event. We kindly ask that you complete the fields below. Please be assured that your data will be treated confidentially, in compliance with the European Union's GDPR. On the day of the conference, please bring your picture ID to enter the building.
