Maliyah Ijames is the Potts Court Watch Intern for AFSC North Carolina. Maliyah is a recent graduate from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University who decided to join AFSC because of the meaningful experience she had while volunteering in 2025. The president of an organization Maliyah was part of held a similar role with AFSC and introduced her to volunteering with the eviction court watch program. This opportunity felt like a full circle moment, as she had first heard about the Keep Gate City Housed campaign a few years ago while attending a local meeting hosted by Guilford for All. Participating in court watches opened Maliyah's eyes to how real and recurring evictions are—it can happen to anyone, and she wants to be part of the solution.
