Join us in Sacramento to support AB 1071

Assembly Bill 1071 (Kalra) strengthens the California Racial Justice Act (RJA, 2020) by ensuring communities can access the legal support and data they need to expose and challenge racial discrimination in the courts.

This bill helps fulfill the promise of racial equity in our justice system by making the law truly enforceable. Criminal justice, civil rights, and community organizations across California are rallying behind AB 1071 to end racism in the courtroom, once and for all.

On Wednesday, August 20th at 10:00am, we are gathering in Sacramento on the steps of the Capitol (map) to demand justice. As federal protections erode, California must lead the way by standing firm in our values: fairness, dignity, and equal treatment under the law. Passing AB 1071 sends a clear message: discrimination has no place in California’s courts. It will ensure access to attorneys and to information, clarify remedies for proven violations of the Racial Justice Act, and create a mechanism to raise RJA claims outside of the restrictive habeas process.

Justice isn’t real if it isn’t equal. AB1071 strengthens the tools we need to stop racial bias where it matters most. Today, we rally for fairness! Will you stand with us? #RacialJusticeForAll #ProtectDueProcess
