Youth Join State Effort to End Child Poverty
Appalachian Center for Equality Youth Leadership in Logan, West Virginia is helping spearhead the local effort of the statewide Our Children, Our Future: The Campaign to End Child Poverty. At a community meeting on January 23rd in Logan, WV the youth voiced their concerns about child poverty and helped plan a regional forum in March where legislators and local officials will be invited to learn about the campaign, hear from local families, and be asked to sign on to the statewide platform that includes expanding Medicaid, addressing prison overcrowding, protecting funding to prevent family violence, and stoppingchild care cuts for working families. The youth are taking prison reform and teen pregnancy as their top issues.
As part of this campaign, the ACE team are joining youth and families from across the state at Children and Families Day at the State Capitol on February 23rd.
