Buried Alive - California

A report on long-term isolation in California’s youth and adult prisons

Before the Dam

“Before the Dam” is a study of the likely environmental impacts and community rights issues arising from the construction and operation of the proposed Kirirom III Hydropower Scheme, in Sre Ambel District, southwest Cambodia.  The study explores the options that exist for the local community to promote their rights.  The study suggests that if built and operated with appropriate measures in place, the Kirirom III scheme could set a bench-mark for sustainable hydro-development in Cambodia.

Development and Impact in Cambodia

This report analyzes general lessons from AFSC’s experience of setting up community fisheries.  The report analyzes:

  • the sources of solidarity in fishing communities,
  • the strengths and limitations of different community organizing strategies,
  • the involvement of women at different stages of the community organizing process, and
  • the connection between community fisheries and rights-based approaches to development.

This report was commissioned by AFSC and the Fisheries Action Coalition Team (FACT).
