Controlling the U.S./Mexico border has become increasingly like waging a war, according to revelations reported in AFSC’s Google Hangout on Air, Boots on the Border, on Oct. 30, 2013. [Watch the one-hour discussion in its entirety.]

H.R. 15: The Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act

The Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act would require the Department of Homeland Security to establish and maintain “operational control” over the southern border and impose border triggers which must be met before anyone can adjust their immigration status.  The bill allows some undocumented immigrants to become citizens, requires mandatory E-Verify for all employers, creates alternatives to detention, and reforms visa programs.
