Divest from occupation and violence
The We Divest Campaign is an effort to get investment giant TIAA-CREF to divest from companies that support Israel’s occupation the Palestinian territory, which includes the Gaza Strip and the West Bank (including East Jerusalem), that contribute to the construction of settlements and the Wall, and/or that provide products or services that enable or contribute to attacks on civilians.
Dalit Baum, PhD, an Israeli activist fresh back from a December trip to Palestine/ Israel, and co-founder of "Who Profits from the Occupation" (www.whoprofits.org), an activist research initiative of the Coalition of Women for Peace, has been researching corporate complicity in Israel's occupation and providing campaign support for dozens of corporate accountability campaigns around the world.
Following approval of an Israel-Palestine investment screen by AFSC’s board, a staff/board committee developed an implementation plan and “no-buy list”. After careful consideration the committee decided to use a list of 29 companies compiled by the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church as the foundation for a new no-buy list. This list was put together following extensive research described here and with assistance from the Who Profits team
