In 2004-5, the AFSC Criminal Justice Program underwent a transition to a program forced on healing and transformative justice. The New England region worked collaboratively with the New York metropolitan region to conceive of a center to support healing justice work internally and externally.

Three nationwide gatherings were held: Native American spiritual leaders, formerly incarcerated people and their families who were working in the field of healing justice, and those who had lost loved ones to murder and worked to advance healing in their communities. These gatherings created both a foundation and a methodology to develop first a community of learning on healing justice and then a healing justice center.

Jamie will trace the work on this project, bring staff up-to-date on its status, and share the lessons from the many listening circles held in communities over the last two years.
