On December 19, 2008, Tim DeChristopher disrupted a highly disputed Utah BLM Oil and Gas lease auction, effectively safeguarding thousands of acres of pristine Utah land that were slated for oil and gas leases. Tim entered the auction hall and registered as bidder #70. He outbid industry giants on land parcels starting at $2 an acre that were adjacent to national treasures like Canyonlands National Park. Tim would serve jail time for this act of civil disobedience, and he would co-found Peaceful Uprising, a grassroots group dedicated to defending a livable future through empowering nonviolent action.   "Bidder 70," a documentary about Tim DeChristopher's nonviolent intervention, is winner of 20 Major Film Awards.

The Culture of Peace and Nonviolence Film Series is sponsored by AFSC, Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service, Temple Beth Jacob, NH Peace Action, UCC Peace with Justice Advocates, and the Concord UU Church.  All films are fee and open to the public, with time for discussion following the film.
