Youth and immigrant storytelling video contest

Do you think you can rock a video camera? Now is your chance! The Immigrants Voice Program (IVP) has designed a scholarship for youth of immigrant background. The three winning videos should consist of a detailed, well thought, creative, persuasive story. The story should be a personal narrative about immigration to the United States, the importance of this decision, and how it has affected the future of the individual and his/her family.

Deferred Action Public Service Announcement in English

In 2012, President Obama’s administration announced Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA, a program that allows us to live and work in the United States legally, with the possibility of renewal every two years.

If you, your son, or daughter came to the United States prior to June 15, 2007, were under 16 years old, and meet other requirements, there’s a possibility you or your child may qualify for deferred action.

En el 2012, la administración del presidente Obama, nos otorgó La Acción Diferida, que es una estadía legal y un permiso de trabajo, con la posibilidad de renovarlos cada dos años.

Si Ud. Su hijo o hija llego a los Estados Unidos antes del 15 de Junio del 2007, tenía menos de 16 años, y cumple con otros requisitos, ay una posibilidad que califique para la Acción Diferida como yo y otros 450,000 jóvenes a nivel nacional.

Si Ud. Ya fue otorgado la Acción Diferida va a poder renovarla comenzando 150 días antes de la fecha de vencimiento.

A passionate social justice activist, she was the founding Executive Director of the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance, a statewide organization that works to ensure K-12 schools fully address issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Jody Mashek directs the Immigration Legal Services component of AFSC’s Immigrants Voice Program in Des Moines.

In one particular case, this man from Eritrea had not seen his wife and children in nine years. And he was such a ‘Dad’ figure, you could tell how much it hurt him not to be around his family. He cried in my office a couple times – here was this man in his 50s.

Iowans reenact La Posada in call for immigration reform

Iowans gather at U.S. Rep. Tom Latham's office to re-enact the immigrant story of Mary and Joseph and to urge Congress to pass humane immigration reform.
