A cool building, tasty ice cream and good work brought 75 Iowans together on August 24th for the second annual Friends House Ice Cream Social in Des Moines. This year's gathering featured this video about the work of the tenants of the building as well as tours of Friends House, home to AFSC's Central Regional office since 1953.

AFSC remains the main tenant of Friends House. Along with regional administrative staff Sonia Tuma, Randy Adams and Jon Krieg, AFSC program staff include Kathleen McQuillen, Iowa Program Coordinator; Jody Mashek, Immigration Legal Services Director, and Sandra Sanchez, Immigrants Voice Program Director.

Other Friends House tenants include Catholic Peace Ministry, directed by Jeffrey Weiss; Des Moines Tutoring of the Sciences with Cole Fuller; Premier Payee, a Social Security payee business run by Shannon Stewart and Tim Edwards; Soul Voice Counseling with Susan Houts; The Ki Inside, alternative healing with Angela Clark; The Center for Peace Research, directed by counselor and author Geral Blanchard; Authentic Freedom Counseling, headed by Mark Hillenbrand; and the Lotus Center, Mollie Michelfelder's counseling and yoga center on the third floor.

At 42nd and Grand Avenue in Des Moines, Friends House is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We invite people to come in throughout the year to get to know us, ice cream or not!
