In commemoration of the adoption of the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the American Friends Service Committee, Jails Action Coalition and New York Campaign for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement, organized an outdoor event in Lower Manhattan to speak out against human rights abuses that are occuring in New York and New Jersey area. Issues protested included the school-to-prison pipeline, immigration detention and deportation, mass incarceration and the routine use of extreme and prolonged isolation in New York and New Jersey's state prisons and city jails.

Representatives of human rights, civil liberties, and religious organizations were joined by formerly incarcerated people and family members of those in solitary confinement.
