Greensboro, NC-March 13--This is a reminder that Save our Community - Fight Foreclosure! is happening this week on Wednesday March 14th: 7 pm at the Carolina Theatre, 310 South Greene Street, in Greensboro. Hope to see you there!

The foreclosure crisis is real, growing, and it's happening right here in Guilford County, where we are averaging 296 NEW foreclosure filings each month. The loss of a home through foreclosure devastates the affected family emotionally and financially. But it’s not only the affected family that suffers.  Each and every foreclosed home impacts each and every member of the community. If nearly 300 families a month are losing their homes it adds up to serious problems for all of us.

The premiere of our locally produced film Let's Lose Our House: A Modern Foreclosure Tale is just part of the evening's fun. "In addition to the movie screening (about 20 minutes), we will hear about one local family's struggle to save their home from foreclosure, and we'll be addressed by local hero Jeff Thigpen, who has used his role as Guilford County's Register of Deeds to dig up evidence of fraud by mortgage lenders.

Perhaps most importantly, the event will offer participants a chance to both get help and give help in the foreclosure struggle. There will be qualified housing counselors on hand from three different organizations to offer advice to people facing foreclosure. And there will be a range of ways for people to add their voice and talents to helping to craft a community-based response to the crisis, ranging from signing a petition to getting trained to dig up evidence of fraud in public records to telling their own foreclosure story.
