The Pacific Southwest Regional Office supports work on issues related to youth leadership development, criminal justice, economic justice, social justice and peace building. Spanning four states and 3,000 miles, the region is made up of programs and offices in Los Angeles, San Diego, New Mexico, Arizona and Hawai'i.
AFSC's Southern California Branch opened in Pasadena in 1942, and eventually became known as the Pacific Southwest Regional Office. In June, 2006, after more than 60 years in Pasadena, the office moved to downtown Los Angeles.
From it's early beginnings to the present, the Pacific Southwest Regional Office has been at the heart of progressive movments affecting the region. AFSC protested US internment orders of West Coast people of Japanese ancestry, created meaningful dialogue in the West among people of different races during the Civil Rights Movement, and counseled scores of Conscientious Objectors of the Vietnam War.
