The creation of the Pacific Mountain Region began following the Japanese Internment during World War II. It has offices in San Francisco, Stockton, Fresno, and Farmersville. The region works from a community base, so our work is broad.
Currently PMR’s three Central Valley offices focus on the rights of farm workers and immigrants, often using popular education to organize participants to represent concerns that they identify.
Also, PMR plays a key role in the Bay Area in opposition to the war in Afghanistan and Iraq and other areas of conflict around the world; as well as our outreach and host events in Nevada and Utah, though we currently do not have offices in the area.
The Pacific Mountain Regional Executive Committee and staff picked cherries alongside workers in the Central Valley, before sharing lunch and conducting their meeting. Workers receive $5.50/hr for each crate of cherries they pick – representing about an hour’s work. The AFSC program, in Stockton, CA, has worked for justice for farmworkers and small farmers for decades.
