The Healing Justice Program empowers individuals harmed by violence and by criminal justice policies to transform the conditions under which they live, and to heal. We recognize and advance the worth and dignity of all people in and around the criminal justice system.
Program staff disseminates public information on human rights abuses and healing opportunities; respond to needs of persons incarcerated and those harmed by criminal acts; influence individual administrators and policy makers; and provide expertise to coalitions, advocacy groups, community organizations, students, the media and writers.
Our Prison Watch Project monitors human rights abuses in U.S. federal and state prisons, specifically the practice of isolation and torture: it promotes nationwide and international attention to these concerns.
Additional projects promote alternative thinking to the incarceration of youth, to community reintegration by persons formerly incarcerated, and to the collateral damage of incarceration and prisons on communities of people.
