AFSC’s Kansas City Program works to increase activism and creatively address the root causes of violence and economic injustice.
We empower youth to speak out about local and global issues and to take action for justice and peace. Young people participate in the “If I Had a Trillion Dollars” youth film festival; create and perform poetry on the theme of “If I Could Change the World”; and participate in a summer Social Change Institute, where they learn and practice the strategies and skills of non-violent social change.
The Kansas City Program’s "Move the Money” campaign works to change the dialogue about the federal budget, advocating for a shift from austerity to investment in people, jobs, education, infrastructure, and hope for the future. The program also counters militarism by opposing U.S. military interventions, working to reduce the bloated Pentagon budget, and increasing understanding of peaceful alternatives.
