Projo.com:RI civil rights groups condemn Minuteman Project rally in favor of AR-type law

PROVIDENCE - Several community activist groups have denounced a scheduled State House rally Friday morning by The Minuteman Project and Rhode Islanders for Immigration Law Enforcement, saying it will stoke racism.

The Minuteman Project, a self-styled “civilian-defense” group, monitors the U.S.-Mexico border for illegal immigration. Organization co-founder Jim Gilchrist and dozens of others will speak on behalf of state Rep. Peter Palumbo’s efforts to introduce legislation identical to the controversial Arizona law known as SB1070, considered the most restrictive in the country’s history. The AFSC's Martha Yager speaks out.
