Issue 3: Acting in Faith with AFSC

Dear Friend,

I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones well and enjoying the last days of summer.

This month, we commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11—and reaffirm our commitment to creating a more just and peaceful path forward. AFSC’s Communities Against Islamophobia recently released a new, 50 minute adaptable 6-12th grade curriculum for teachers. Find the curriculum here.

I also ask that you continue to invite liaisons at your meeting/church and others to sign up for this email. They will also get invitations curated specifically for Quakers. And as always, feel free to contact me with questions or comments at friends@afsc.org.

Here are some other ways you can engage with AFSC today:

  • Take action on Afghanistan: Contact U.S. policymakers to assist Afghan people seeking safety. Read AFSC’s statement on Afghanistan, urging the U.S. to invest in diplomacy. And consider making a gift to support Afghans seeking safety.
  • Register: "Faith Voices Call: Citizenship For All!": Join AFSC and partners at the Interfaith Immigration Coalition for our webinar on Sept. 20, 4 p.m. ET. We’ll discuss current efforts to create a pathway to citizenship for all—which is now under consideration in Congress as part of the budget reconciliation process. We’ll also give you tools to take action to make citizenship for all a reality for all undocumented people.
  • Hear directly from courageous community organizers: Join us every other Wednesday for our Facebook Live event where AFSC staff members share updates on our work. Our most recent event featured AFSC’s Foluke Nunn with an update from Atlanta on local efforts to help tenants organize and stop housing evictions.
  • And don’t forget to follow AFSC on social media!: Stay up to date on upcoming events and ways to take action by joining us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Our New Orleans staff are reported safe, but much of the community is without power, and we are holding everyone affected by the hurricane in the Light.

Thank you for your continued support of AFSC’s work and all that you do in working for a more just and peaceful world!

Blessings,
