The Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation Goal reflects AFSC’s commitment to the Quaker Peace Testimony. Its intention is to encourage the use of non-violent and diplomatic means to resolve conflicts between nation states, to address the growing tide of militarism and seek alternatively peaceful pathways toward security, and to assist local communities in affirming a “culture of peace” in order to transform their values and behaviors so that they reject violence. The work associated with this Goal includes, among other things, advocating for a reduction in military spending and for an increase in funds for human needs, promotion of holistic and restorative approaches to building peace at the policy level, and helping more youth find and choose ways to not participate in militarism.
