"Immigration as a Moral Issue," a study group based on a comprehensive curriculum developed by the UUA, will begin on Thursday, January 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Gale House living room. Meeting every other week for four sessions, we will examine a range of issues including current policies related to detention, deportation, enforcement and legal entry practices. Our goal is to create a vision for a just and fair immigration policy.

PHOENIX - A Quaker group will release an extensive report on the safety, quality, and cost of private prisons in Arizona. – including six prisons run by Corrections Corp. of America that do not contract with the state. The state is currently soliciting bids for construction and management of 2,000 new prison beds to private operators, a move that would cost state taxpayers millions of dollars each year, with little public safety return on the investment.

After resigning from his post as a senior State Department official in Afghanistan as a form of protest against US foreign policy, Hoh was named the Ridenhour Prize Recipient for Truth Telling. His writings have appeared in multiple national newspapers, and the Council on Foreign Relations has cited Matthew’s resignation letter as an Essential Document.
