A reception celebrating the opening of Windows and Mirrors: Reflections on the War in Afghanistan mural exhibit at Coralville Public Library will be Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 1 to 3:30 pm in Meeting Room A on the library’s lower level. Windows & Mirrors is a provocative art exhibit on the human cost of war and features reproductions of murals created by U.S. and international artists to memorialize the civilian causalities in Afghanistan. These windows on a war-torn country are also mirrors reflecting our own identity as a nation at war. Featured speaker at the September 9th reception is Michael McConnell, Midwest regional director of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). McConnell was instrumental in the creation of the Windows and Mirrors mural project.
The exhibit is available during regular hours from September 1 to 30th, and a number of programs featuring nationally known activists are being held in conjunction with Windows and Mirrors.
The Windows and Mirrors exhibit and programs are free and open to the public. For a complete list of programs, see the meeting room calendar at www.coralvillepubliclibrary.org or call the library at 319-248-1850. Regular library hours are: Monday through Thursday, 10am to 8:30pm; Friday, 10am to 6pm, Saturday, 9am to 4:30pm, and Sunday 12 noon to 4pm.
